Carol Ryrie Brink

This is a written report, about Carol Ryrie Brink:
Carol was born December 28th 1895, in Moscow Idaho. Her father, Alexander Ryrie, was the first mayor of Moscow. Her mother named her Carol because her birth was so close to Christmas. As soon as she could walk she would run to her grandma’s house to be with her. She loved her grandma more than almost anything.
At only the age of eight her parents died, and her grandma, Caddie Woodhouse, and her aunt took her in.Her grandma always told her stories about her child hood, which inspired her to write. She would sit on the most comfortable branch of the cherry tree and tell herself stories, while eating cherries. Her grandma was also the inspiration for Caddie Woodlawn, one of her first books.
On June 12th 1918 she married Raymond Woodard Brink and they had two children. David Ryrie, who was born in 1919, and Nora Caroline, who was born in 1930. In 1938 she wrote and published her first book, Anything Can Happen on the River.
A while later she published Caddie Woodlawn, and it won a 1936 Newberry Award.
For her last years after retiring she focused on her social life and hung out with friends. In 1981 she died and was buried where she was born and raised, Moscow Idaho.
